confused about the middle earth history?

I started to read the lord of the rings book the complete one and now I want to read the story from the beginning like what do you recommend the simarillion or the book of lost tales 1 and 2 or what, I just want to read the history of the middle earth from the beginning, I am asking because there is a lot of options ...... thank you
