| Karl Marx, "The Science of History," and its detractors? - Looking for some History/Historiography Pros Ok, armchair philosophers and history enthusiasts, got a question for you all. Karl Marx, best known for the Communist Manifesto, was said to have conceived his task as turning History into a Science. Now while i know about Communism in both its Russian and Chinese formats, i've never heard of this metaphysical (or is it anti-metaphysical?) approach taken to the subject of History. If anyone could tell me the source document for this statement, i'd be much obliged. And part 2 to the question - what are the most popular approaches of how to think about history and historiography in our postmodern era? Is there a mainstream/consensus viewpoint? |
