| If you only lived on YA! you'd think it does. I had no idea that a somewhat forgotten recognition of one group of people's (a "minority" at that!) contribution to American society could rile up and anger so many others. It's unbelievable. They say that it isn't necessary, either because they don't have a month (many ethnicities do have months, or in some case have the whole year) or because they feel it makes us UN-American.
All of those reasons sound like straight bull to me. Yea I know slavery was a "long time ago" but it is a part of our history as are the strives that African-Americans have made in spite of the ways that they were treated (and still are treated). We have to reflect and learn from our history otherwise as they say...we are doomed to repeat it.
BTW I had an enjoyable Black history month and plan to enjoy the rest of Irish-American heritage month. |
