| What do you think about high-school students picks for most famous...
...Americans in history? Several weeks ago, USA Today published a result of a survey of high-school students asking them who they thought the most famous Americans in history were (excluding presidents and first ladies). Here were the results: 1. Martin Luther King Jr.: 67% 2. Rosa Parks: 60% 3. Harriet Tubman: 44% 4. Susan B. Anthony: 34% 5.Benjamin Franklin: 29% 6. Amelia Earhart: 25% 7. Oprah Winfrey: 22% 8. Marilyn Monroe: 19% 9. Thomas Edison: 18% 10. Albert Einstein: 16% What do you think about these selections? (Note that the survey asked for most famous, not necessarily the greatest.) The results were published at the beginning of February, so the survey was probably actually taken before Black History Month. I don't know any of the rules other than "no presidents or first ladies", but perhaps the students were told that naturalized citizens could be included. |
