| Passover Dinner for the Non-Jewish?
I am not Jewish, but my boyfriend is. I was invited by his family to come to Passover dinner. I am very honored and although I know what Passover celebrates, I am not familiar with the rituals. M boyfriend asked me if I wanted to participate and I said yes. This is really important to me. Two things I wanted to is how to behave properly at Passover so I don't look like a complete retard and also what I should bring. I thought about a Kosher wine, but am not sure.

Great questions! OK, first go to the site below and look for the sections on Passover. That will give you a lot of info. Next: as far as participation, just do what everyone else does. It's not complicated and it's a lot of fun. People usually take turns reading in English, so enjoy that--don't worry about not being able to pronounce all of the names, no one expects you to. Yes, a kosher wine would make a perfectly fine gift. Make sure it says "Kosher for Passover", however. The simplest one to get is Manischewitz (it's in a square bottle), about $4 a bottle. Everyone loves it and its consumption is almost universal. If not that, then a bottle or two of gefilte fish--again, it should say "kosher for Passover" on it. About $3 - $8 a bottle. Don't worry about anything--you're going to have a **great** time. |

Passover is the Jewish festival celebrating an end to bondage and slavery in the Land of Egypt...behave as befits such a holiday. You should feel honored since it is the time that the family (which you are now considered to be) bonds together. In your case, you should bring flowers (rather than wine) and be prepared to help out in the kitchen. I am honored that your beau has chosen someone as nice as yourself. If you could get a transliteration of the Four Questions asked at the meal and be able to recite them, you would make our celebration even more pertinent.
