Bit has a spectacular aura about
Yom Kippur and forgiveness??

What is Yom Kippur? Is it a time to ask G-d for forgiveness? How do you know if you are forgiven? If you went to the Synagogue every year for Yom Kippur and ever walked away not knowing if you are forgiven then read ahead.

What if I was to tell you that there is a way to know for sure... What if I was to tell you that it is linked to the Passover coming next week....

Genesis 22:8 7 And Isaac spoke unto Abraham his father, and said: 'My father.' And he said: 'Here am I, my son.' And he said: 'Behold the fire and the wood; but where is the lamb for a burnt-offering?' 13 ....And Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt-offering in the stead of his son.

Exodus 12:7 Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs. 8 That same night they are to eat the meat roasted over the fire, along with bitter herbs, and bread made without yeast.

Leviticus 5:6
and, as a penalty for the sin he has committed, he must bring to the LORD a female lamb or goat ...as a sin offering; and the priest shall make atonement for him for his sin.

Ezra 6:17
as a sin offering for all Israel, twelve male goats, one for each of the tribes of Israel.

"What is Yom Kippur?"
It is the day of repentance/atonement.

"Is it a time to ask G-d for forgiveness?"
For sins committed against God, yes. One cannot ask God for forgiveness for sins committed against other people, though; for that, one must gain the forgiveness of the people whom one has transgressed.

"How do you know if you are forgiven?"
Well, we believe that God seals the book of life on Yom Kippur. Thus, you know by continuing to live.

"What if I was to tell you that there is a way to know for sure... What if I was to tell you that it is linked to the Passover coming next week...."
Pesach has nothing to do with forgiveness, it has to do with celebrating and retelling the story of the exodus from Egypt.

It is the most sacred day of the year. I know because I am obeying what HaShem set down for me to do. Obedience is better than sacrifice, remember?
