How long should I avoid caffeine, sodas, and sugars?

I am going on a holiday from caffeine, sodas, sugars, and other things that cause my acid reflux in order to help my voice. I'm been having some difficulty in singing. my talking voice sounds raspy as well. it is often hard for me to go on vocal rest since I sing at church.

It's recommended to give those up entirely just to save your OWN health. However, it's just too easy to get back on those habits. I know. I sing and eat/drink that stuff too.I recommend trying to stay off complex sugars, caffeine and soda for a month just to give your health a boost. You might also look into taking Fish Oil for your digestion difficulties and also seaweed, to give your cells a lift. The result will be strength and energy, which you are asking for.

Hey i sing at church too! : ) Ok, I just did this actually! I have a catholic friend who wanted me to do lent with her and i havent done any soda etc since whenever lent was. ha. i know you're supposed to be able to go back after easter. However, it has really helped my voice!! Initially, i encountered the exact thing you're talking about. My body was so used to the sugars that it kinda freaked out. Compensate for this raspy scratchyness with cough drops and TONS of water. Once your body gets used to the absense of these regulars of soda etc, you will be so amazed at what you can do vocally without all that crap! ha.

Usually a couple of days is enough unless you are having allergies.Hot liquids, cold ilquids, sugar and milk products will cause flem to build up and alter the sound of your voice. The best beverage to drink for maximum voice performance is room temperature water.
