What is the best way to take money on an international holiday.?

If traveling to europe, where you would need different types of currency, to avoid fee's and charges?

I think it is next to impossible to have charges. You will be able to use your ATM over there and there will be charges. If you take cash with you and attempt exchange it money changers and your hotel will charge you. Best bet take your ATM card and figure out how much you need and pull it out once you get there. That will minimize the charges to a one time conversion and will be cheaper than the Hotel or Money Exchange.

Assuming your destination is within the EU, get some Euro's before traveling .. you do not want to arrive at the destination airport only to find the ATM is out of order (or doesn't like your cards) and the Cab / Coach driver will only take cash .. (although a lot of the former Soviet countries still accept dollars)Note that AmEx charge higher than normal Credit Cards so less places will take them in Europe .. VISA & Master Card are almost universally accepted. If you are UK based, the Post Office does good exchange rates and Nationwide is the only card issuer that does not charge for ATM withdrawals abroad ..
