Serious Hanukkah question?

I am not joking, I am religiously inept.
I do know that it has to do with a miracle.
I also know that jewish people read the old testament while christians read both the old and new.
So the question is did hanukkah come before christ ? and if so why do christians not celebrate it if they follow the old testament?

Hanukkah is based on the book of Maccabees which is not part of the King James Bible. It is a beautiful read and is well worth the time in study.

One of my goals for the new year is to study this book with tools from the Jewish community and the Catholics.

peace,
Pam

And yes, the book of Maccabees came before Christ.

Channukah came before Christ.

We don't celebrate it, I guess because compared to the other miracles that Christ did, including being raised from the dead, it just doesn't seem very important or miraculous.

That's just my opinion about why -- I don't want to offend anyone.

Great question!!!!

You would think since Christianity came from Judaism, that there would be more love from Christians to Jews and they would follow similar holidays before the birth of Christ also since we believe in the same God.

Christians didnt really celebrate Christmas the way they do now and I think Hanukkah was not an important holiday in the past.
Soooo I think Christmas morphed into what it is today back in 1800's Europe and Hanukkah morphed into what it is after.

That's a great questions, Hanukkah came before Christ, and Christians do not celebrate it because they have different faith and beliefs. Hanukkah is all about miracle for Jews but for Christians is all about Jesus' miracle. I think it is how it had been chosen by Christian's preferences and now people in this century follow them throughout the years.
