Has anyone performed Umrah in Ramadan without buying a umrah package?

I live in U.S.A and i was wondering if anyone has done umrah without buying a package? if so, how? please explain in details.
Are there any other cheaper ways to perform umrah in ramadan?

My uncle walked inside the kahaba used to pray there every Friday for Jummah Salat. He lived there and never had to buy anything Al hamdoullah.

The world should bring muslims from every walk of life from all corners of the world for free to Mecca. There should be no cost if you are a muslim it should be free.

Your going to have to get the visa. No matter if your a citizen or not during Ramadan or Hajj is the busiest times so you will have to get the visa. Secondly you will have to stay somewhere these packages include the trips of pilgramage food and so on. The very cheapest way is to talk to the masjed closest to you and see what they have to offer. If its just Umrah then you don't need a guide. If its Hajj I suggeset you take one of these packages because surely you will not go through the Hajj without proper guidance from the Imam or Sheikh inshAllah Tahalah.

I still feel the entire process should be free for all muslims. Salam!

I agree it should be cheaper, but as for the last answer of allowing everyone who wants to..
I am here in Saudi.. you have to understand.. There is crowd control issues.. If every single muslim who wanted to come, came,, there wouldnt be a single space left in mecca...
The way they work it, is a certain percentage of each country are allowed in per the amount of muslims in that country.. And they supposedly limit Saudi's to once every 5 years( some sneak in under that though, which to me isnt fair).. cause if you've done your Umrah or hajj, leave the space open for someone of another country who hasnt had the chance yet..
