In the Old Testament it is a celebration of the death angel passing over Israel. In the New Testament it is a celebration of the death of Christ, freeing us from sin, thereby preventing our ultimate death (the second death). When is it? It is on Nisan 14, with the Passover being consumed on Nisan 15 after sundown. Nisan 15 is 15 days after the true Hebrew new year in the Spring. Egypt was a symbol of sin. Pharaoh was a symbol of Satan. Just as the Israelites broke free from bondage of Egypt we can break free from the bondage of sin, accepting the Son of God. |
