1. We wake up before the crack of dawn to eat something and pray after the call for prayer (adhan in arabic) is given..some people go back to sleep (like me most of the time, because i have to go to school and won't be able to concentrate due to lack of sleep otherwise) others mostly stay up and read the Qur'an or do something similar 2. Go about life the usual way, only we don't eat or drink anything; we're more strictly forbidden from doing any sort of bad deeds, patience and tolerance encouraged, etc.people spend less time on leisure activities and more on prayer and remembrance of God.there are two more prayers, the Dhuhr and Asr prayed in the afternoon (somewhere between 12.00-16.00) and evening(sometime 16.00 btn 1800) which we pray on normal days also. 3.At sunset, after the Maghreb adhan, we break our fast, traditionally by eating a date, followed by a glass of water or some other drink and other specially prepared dishes for Ramadan in most households..(they're really good, you should try them out sometime ^ ^). then we pray again 4. After twilight, there's another prayer, called Isha along with which we usually pray a special Ramadan prayer called Taraweeh, which is usually prayed in congregation but can be prayed alone also..then most muslims like to recite Qur'an till late into night before going to bed. 5.In the last 10 days of Ramadan, there is a special night called "Laylatul Qadr" in which the Qur'an was revealed..no one but God nkows the exact date, so we spend these nights fully in prayer and remembrance of God, especially the odd-numbered ones (i,.e. 21,23, 25,27,29..) Ramadan is the ninth month of the islamic calendar, and considered the holiest month..all healthy muslims who have come of age are supposed to fast in it, while children, the sick, expecting/breast-feeding mothers, old people and the mentally handicapped are exempted..Hope that was helpful..Have a nice day..^^ |

Get up, eat suhur. Suhur is the pre-dawn meal that we eat before the time for fajr sets in. Wash up, make ablutions. Do fajr salat. Do `ibadat/return to bed and sleep (depends on the person). `Ibadat are smaller acts of worship, most of which are not required. Go to work/begin house chores/ do more `ibadat (depends on the person). Do dhuhr & `asr salat. Some go to the mosque and attend these in congregation. Sunni Muslims have two separate and distinct times for these two salat. Shia Muslims have a combined time perioud for them and are able to perform one after completing the other. Return to work/rest/do more chores/do more `ibadat. Finish work/finish chores/start preparing to go to the mosque for night services. Arrive at mosque, attend salat in congregation, break the fast, do `ibadat. Or some rest or do salat and `ibadat at home. Part of traditional Ramadan `ibadat is reciting the Qur'an successively day after day until we complete it at the end of the month. Sunni Muslims do salat at-tarawih. Shia Muslims do have some optional salat that they do, sometimes in marathon format, but not salat at-tarawih. Off to bed and sleep/stay up and do `ibadat including salat al layl. We like to break our fasting with water and dates. There are so many other traditions that we have for Ramadan. |
