Difference between Christmas and New Year?

If we calculate the time from the the birth of Jesus Christ, why is it that we do not calculate it from Christmas to Christmas, why from New Year to New Year? Or if this is not clear enough, than what is the difference between Christmas and New Year?

well i believe since no body knows FOR SURE what day jesus was born on i think they chose a day closer to the end of year nd 2 clebrate a good year nd giving nd new years is 2 celebrate the new year so christmas the year passing nd jesus nd new years teh year 2 come 2 not jesus
