What do I do when I want to stay home from school due to an illness?

I'm really sick and I don't want to go to school tomorrow. I'm in High School. I have never taken a sick day since elementary school. What do I do? I'm in the Hacienda La Pluente Unified School District. Do I just stay home? Do I have to call the school? Do I need a doctor's note?
I don't know the procedures to taking a day off due to illness since I never had to.

At most schools, you have your parents call the school (unless you are 18, then you do it) and tell them you are sick and will not make it to school. You just stay home. Some schools require a doctors note, but mine doesn't and I don't know if yours does.
