My 6 yr. old daughter always comes home from school and takes a nap. This wouldn't be a problem but,? we spend hours on homework that should only take an hour tops. For example, today she got off the bus at 3:30 pm she started her homework right away. She read a book (10-12 pgs. 2-4 sentences per page). The teacher sends home a worksheet (4-6 questions) that goes along with the book. As of right now (6:15pm) she is still working on the worksheet. She has fallen asleep 3-4 times while doing it. She fills in the blanks with stuff that isn't related to the story or doesn't answer the question. It's not just her reading its all homework. If she doesn't fall asleep during her homework she falls asleep when she is done. She gets up at 6:30 am and goes to bed at 8:30 pm. I have tried putting her to be earlier and it dont make a difference. I feel her school work is suffering because of this. I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Any rude comments or suggestion are not welcome. After she goes to bed 98% of the time she is asleep within 15 minutes. Homework is not useless. It is a learning tool. She also naps on the weekends so its not just during the week. I am sure she is asleep i am up until 2am at least. School is not a new concept for her. When she was 3 she went to 1/2 day preschool, at age 4 she went to full day preschool and at 5 she went to full day kindergarten.

Ok look at it this way, you go to work I'm assuming about 40 hours a week, and you know how tiring that must be. Your daughter who is 6, who is still a little girl, is transitioning from staying at home all day to all of a sudden doing 40 hour work (school) weeks. It also sounds like she's not sleeping well at night even though she's going to bed on time. Have her checked out by a doctor for sleep insomnia and sleep apneia. Also try letting her have a a 45 min nap when she comes in from school. That way she will a) will be able to better concentrate on her homework b) she will still sleep at night.

talk with the teacher. I would be looking at only doing the reading. She is only 6 and homework should take no more than 5 min. She is too tired. At 6 mine were in bed by 6.30. You really need to try and get her to bed earlier. 8.30 is way to late. An hour of homework for a 6 year old is ridiculous. They should not have that much tillhigh school

I have a six year old also, and I don't think that the amount of homework is out of line. One book and a worksheet is do-able. Maybe try letting her nap for an hour and then get up, have a snack and do her homework before supper. Or, you could get her up 30 min. early and have her do her work in the morning. One of my children is worthless after school, but is on the ball in the mornings, so we practice her math facts in the morning. If we try at night it only leads to frustration for us both. Some kids suffer from stimulation overload and need some down time. Some kids sleep, some kids need to zone out in front of the tv for an hour. I would suggest trying some different things and see if they work. Fighting with her to get her work done when she is falling asleep is not accomplishing anything. She is not learning. Good luck!!

She is extreemly bright She is extreemly tired personally id keep her off school for a while and find suitable films that will educate and inform whilst feeling soothing.(teachers voice) make her a coco and give her a cuddle, tuck her down on the sofa (so she can still feel you around her). .... and try putting your feet up yourself more.

Sounds like my sister when she was little. She was a nap bug. It's hard to break the nap habit, but maybe the homework is boring her to sleep? Try giving her little breaks in between reading and the worksheets--maybe take the worded pages away from her and give her a refreshing snack.
