Is it right for schools to send students home with backpacks that weigh 31 pounds?

My daughter had the same problem last year and i sent a note complaining about that to the principal and the School District.. They are sending the same homework but they try not to let the kids take the books home.. it looks like teachers are alternating homework days so that one day kids bring home just a set of books and the next day the next set of books.. to keep the back packs lighter.
I hope you parents could do the same for you.

so I am in 7th grade, and weighed my backpack and it is 31 pounds. Its actually light compared to a lot of days. Should schools be able to do this?
I am not complaining that it is too heavy. I just wasnt sure if they should be allowed to do that

This was a problem in my state not too long ago. I believe the state regulates it now, but I'm unsure of the outcome. I suggest doing what one of the other posters said and get one of the rolling backpacks. It's a huge strain on your back, so it's definitely worth the investment.

The schools aren't responsible for regulating that type of thing. Also, that's exactly why they invented those rolling backpacks. Although they are ugly, they will save your back, which you will need a lot longer than the backpack.

The amount you learn from your homework is not proportional to the weight of your backpack. No one is going to stop assigning work because your book bag is heavy. Get a wheeling bag or something - at least maybe they'll notice.
