If my daughter is continually having headaches and wanting to stay home from... ...school, should she be punished? i dont know if shes just tired and doesnt want to get up and go or if she is really sick. i've been telling her that if she stays home then she will have no weekends, is that the right thing to do? i have taken her to the doctor many times but all they do is say neurologist yet my insurance wont pay for it. shes 16. i have asked her all of the questions but she denys all of them shes a very social person so i dont think that is the case. im at witts end

Dont punish her. I dont want to scare you but... Constanted head aches can be symtoms of very serious problems. ex... brain tumors pressure on the brain ulsers etc... take her to a docter. She might also be having troubles at school... bullying, friends, or even school work.

well theres the obvios that she might of course actually be sick. but before you rush her to the doctor, talk to her! now, i'm a teen and i know we all hate feeling untrusted. u dont want to insult her by asking her if she's really sick or not. and if u do, she's just going to say she is even if she's not. however, u do need to confront her. but maybe buy her a milkshake first or something lol here's the rule my parents did on me and my siblings, and it certainly worked: if you come home sick, you rest, do ur homework, and basically rest for the rest of the day. no TV, PHONE, OR COMPUTER, etc!!!! pretty much, no fun allowed. coming home sick is not an excuse to catch up on the latest reality show or whatever, u shouldn't be home unless you are realllly sick and can't do anything but rest. i havent missed a day of school in three years, except when i had the flu twice. and besides, i never really thot of a headache as a reason to stay home?? that's kind of weird. i mean, if its like really really bad kind of migraine thing, then yeah go to the doctor asap!

that's what my parents did to me when i tried to stay home from school all the time BUT what they didn't know is that the reason i faked being ill all the time was so i didn't have to go because i was being badly bullied and it actually made me sick sometimes to think i had to go back. luckily we moved so i went to a new school and was very happy there and went again. maybe this is what the matter is with your daughter. sometimes teens find it really hard to tell there parents they are being bullied. its not always as easy to speak up as people think. try to talk to her, maybe suggest to her if she wants to try a new school? if she says yes then clearly you know she is being bullied and is unhappy. i doubt she would fake illness for a long time everyday if she was ok with school and she certainly would go if she thought her weekends were at stake and she was fine with school.

You are being completely unfair! I have a severe migraine problem and need to stay home from school a lot. My pills to treat it are 30$ per pill! And sometimes it takes 5-6 pills to treat them! Do not punish her for something she can't control! Just tell her that if she continualy has headaches then you are going to take her to a doctor. If she is faking, threatening a doctors appointmentwill be enuff to get her to stop. If she's not faking she'll be excitedfor the appointment. I would be so pissed if my parents told me to go to school if I had a migraine! Doctors appoinment time!

Make sure she is getting enough sleep, that might be it. Also take her to the doctor, don't jump to conclusions thinking that she's lieing. If the doctor says nothing is wrong then I think she should be sent to school and you should ignore that. If she complains to her teacher about headaches make sure you tell her the situation. But first remember to get it checked out by the doctor incase something really is wrong! Also have her eat breakfast every morning, and take some vitamins daily.
