home schooling should be banned?

you reckon?
the reason i ask is that i saw a doc recently where a kid was home schooled and he learned nothing but the bible. this seems to be quite common and i think the reason many parents choose to home school is to pump religion into the kids rather than a decent education.
some good points have been made regarding accountability and the fact that some kids are better off with one on one learning. all fine and dandy if the parents are accountable but as it stands now they don't appear to be and can just teach whatever they like. i'm thinking until a decent assesment system is in place, banning is the only way to ensure these poor kids get the education they deserve.
