Special ed diploma. 4years in high school and end up at home with my mom.I spent all most all my life in special ed i never wanted to drop out of school but when i graduated from school i found out i could not use my Special ed diploma to goto school.i felt like i wasted a lot of time in school for what just to end up at home with my mom and dad with no job this is what will happen to special ed kids when they get out of school its not worth it.

We had to chocse a special ed diplom or a certificate of completion i chose a special ed diplom
I never droped out i did everthing that was ask of me when i was in school and now i end at home with my mom with now where to go...

During every Individual Education Plan Meeting your parents were explained as to the outcome of the potential of graduating with an alternative diploma. Some students stay in school until they are 21 or 22. There are many that move on to technical school for a skill training. Has no one talked to you about these possibilities? If they haven't then go to your Exceptional Student Education Dept. at the school board in your county, and ask them to give you information on alternative work placement. If you do not get results go to the next county and find out what they are doing about the situation. There is something wrong with the plan if you are not getting the help! You can receive guidance if you want it I believe~

as i posted when this exact question was asked under a different screen name:

are you the in the USA-what state? if you have an IEP and meet the requirements of teh IEP you are supposed to get a standard diploma in some states-not just a certificate of completion-

that used to happen regulary a few generations ago-unfortuately it is still being practiced in many areas..

if you are able can you get a GED-colleges wil recognize that

also work with the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation

there is info about waivers and variances(for what I don't know)-it looks like you can return to take the standardized test to get a standard diploma-

they are both worthless.I hate to see you people
with LD work hard and do your best then get told
you can't continue your education because you
got a modified diploma. One size does not fit all.
