The average of 5 numbers is 4. I add a number and the average is now 5.
what number was added?

(20+x)/6 = 5

20+x =30

x = 10

let x be the sum of the 5 numbers, so the average is
x/5 =4
add a number y
(x+y)/6 = 5

solve for x then solve for y
