during the procces of what phase of the heartbeat does the heart pack with blood?
how are arteries distinguished from veins?

The heart fills with blood during diastole and then expells blood during systole. It is important to undertand however that these two events occur nearly symultaneously.

Arteries typically carry oxygen rich blood away from the heart and veins carry poorly oxygenated blood to the heart. There is one acception to this rule: The pulmonary artery leaves the heart carrying poorly oxygenated blood to the lungs. The pulmonary vein then returns to the left atrium of the heart carrying oxygen rich blood.
