My Daughter got this for homework and Im curious to know how to work it out.? Julie wears a pedometer when she is walking or jogging. It shows The number of steps taken and based on her step length, the distance she has traveled in km (correct to 2 decimal places). Julie has measured her step length to be 95cm when she is jogging and 65cm when walking.On Monday she set her step length to 95cm and jogged a certain distance from home. Then she got tired and entered her walking step length into the pedometer and walked the remaining distance to a friends house. When she arrived the pedometer showed a total of 4812 steps and a total distance of 3.75km. At what distance from Julies home (in Km correct to the 2 decimal places) did she stop jogging?

My Daughter got this for homework and Im curious to know how to work it out.? let x = number of running stepslet y = number of walking stepsx + y = 481295x + 65y = 375000 (to put it in cm)solve simultaneouslyx = 4812 - y95(4812 - y) + 65y = 375000 457140 - 95y + 65y = 375000-30y = -82140y = 2738x = 4812 - 2738= 20742074*.95 = 1970.3m = 1.97km

My Daughter got this for homework and Im curious to know how to work it out.? At what distance from Julies home (in Km correct to the 2 decimal places) did she stop jogging? Is the answer, it is either a two variable question or a single, based on one variable. I would say Distance=Rate*Time create a two level table and figure out the equation, or get your son to.

My Daughter got this for homework and Im curious to know how to work it out.? Hi,J = # of jogging stepsW = = # of walking stepsJ + W = 481295J + 65W = 375,000 (3.75 km as centimeters)Multiply the top equation by -65 and add the equations together.-65(J + W = 4812)95J + 65W = 375,000-65J - 65W = -312,78095J + 65W = 375,000--------------------------------30J = 62,220J = 2074 Julie jogged 2,074 steps, so at 95 cm/step, this is 197,030 cm. This is a distance of 1.97 km to 2 decimal places.I hope that helps!! :-)

My Daughter got this for homework and Im curious to know how to work it out.? let [x] be the number of steps she jogged, and [y] be the number of steps she walkedtotal steps = 4812x + y = 48123.75km = 3750m = 375,000 cmdistance is equal to the number of steps multiplied by the length of each steptherefore,95 (number of steps jogged) + 65 (number of steps walked) = 375, 000-->> 95x + 65y = 375,000, which can be reduced to (by diving both sides by the same number) 19x + 13y = 75, 000so now we have two equations which we can solve simultaneously x + y = 4812 .....(1)19x +13y = 75000 .....(2)multiplying (1) by 19, we get19x + 19y = 4812 *19now we subtract (2) from (1) to get(19x - 19y) + (19y - 13y) = 4812(19) - 75000so 6y = 4812 (19) - 75000 = 16428therefore, y = 16428/6 = 2738y = number of steps walked.therefore, Julie walked 2738 stepsshe took a total of 4812 steps, and soshe jogged x steps= 4812 - 2738= 2074 stepsy = 2738 steps, x = 2074 stepsshe stopped jogging after 2074 ( 95) cm = 197030 cm = 1.97 kmP.S. - exactly Sangmo . maybe it isn't the mother at all

My Daughter got this for homework and Im curious to know how to work it out.? Let: j = number of steps taken while jogging w = number of steps taken while walkingJ = distance traveled by jogging, metersW = distance traveled by walking, metersEquation1: j + w = 4812Equation2: J + W = 3750 (note: 1 kilometer = 1000 meters; 1 meter = 100 cms)But, J = 0.95j and W = 0.65wTherefore, 0.95j + 0.65w = 3750 Equation3From Equation1: j = 4812 - w Equation4Substitute Equation4 to Equation3:0.95(4812 - w) + 0.65w = 3750Solve for w:0.95(4812) - 0.95w + 0.65w = 3750-0.95w + 0.65w = 3750 - 0.95(4812)-0.30w = -821.4w = 2738 stepsW = 0.65 * 2738 = 1779.7 meters j = 4812 - 2738 = 2074 stepsJ = 0.95 * 2074 = 1970.3 meters = 1.97 kilometersTherefore, Julie stopped jogging and started walking 1970.3.7 meters or 1.97 kilometers from her home.To check:J + W = 37501779.7 + 1970.3 = 37503750 = 3750 Yes!

My Daughter got this for homework and Im curious to know how to work it out.? Let the no. of steps taken while jogging be xLet the no. of steps taken while walking be yTotal no. of steps = 4812=> x+y=4812 -------------(1)Step length while jogging is 95 cmThus, total distance travelled while jogging=95xStep length while walking is 65cmThus, total distance travelled while walking=65yTotal distance travelled = 3.75km = 375000 cm95x+65y=37500019x+13y=75000 ---------(2)Multiplying eqn (1) by 1313x+13y=62556 --------------(3)eqn(2)-eqn(3)6x=12444x=2074No. of steps taken while jogging is 2074Thus, disatnce travelled while jogging will be 2074*95=197030cm=1.97 kmThus, the distance from Julies home (in Km correct to the 2 decimal places) at which she stopped jogging is 1.97km
