Please Help! 8th grade English ADVERBS homework? HELP!!?

i understand adverbs, and i'm usually good at english. i completed all of my english homework, but these are some that i'm not sure about.

Write each adverb and the word it modifies. There may be more than one adverb in a sentence.

1. They became professionals when they were only 17 and 16.

I put
ADVERBnly
WORD IT MODIFIES: 17 and 16

but an adverb is supposed to modify a verb, adjective, or another adverb. and "17 and 16" is not an adjective, or is it?!

here are more i didnt understand:

2.They may ascend trees daily if their services are needed.

3. They work very carefully when they are up in the tops of trees.

4. The two teenagers climb high in order to cut branches that might suddenly fall on a house or wire.

OK SO ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IT PICK OUT THE ADVERB(S) AND THE WORD IT MODIFIES..i'm really not sure about these. HELP!
isn't HIGH a verb?? please someone help
Maybe???, I'm sorry but you're a dumb ass! You are obviously not an English teacher because there are MANY adverbs that do not end in -ly.

16 and 17 are adjectives... tells how many. Remember the adjective questions: what kind, which one, how many, how much, and whose.

2. daily, modifies ascend. Tells how often.

3. very modifies carefully. carefully modifies work.

4. high modifies climb. suddenly modifies fall.

Adverb questions to remember: where, when, how, how often, and to what extent.

1. adverb : only
word it modifies : were

2. adverb : daily
word it modifies : ascend

3. adverb : carefully
word it modifies : work

4. adverb : suddenly
word it modifies : fall

Remember : an adverb describes a verb (an action) and it usually (but not always) ends in "ly"....examples : quickly, suddenly, stupidly, funnily, etc...

Good luck =)

1. You are correct. "sixteen" (and seventeen) describes something about the individual to which it refers, therefore it is an adjective.

2. Daily - modifies the very "ascend" (gives us more information about when they ascend)

3. Two adverbs here. "Carefully" is an adverb modifying the verb "work." "Very" is an adverb modifying "carefully" (adverbs can modify other adverbs)

4. Two adverbs here as well. "High" is an adjective modifying the verb "climb." "Suddenly" is an adverb modifying the verb "fall."

All adverbs are created by placing 'ly' after the adjective; ie: careful(adj) ---> carefully(adv); silent(adj) ---> silently(adv).

Therefore:
1. There is no adverb in this sentence at all. 'only' is not
the extension of 'on'.
2. NO adverb here either.
3. 'carefully' is the adverb, and modifies the word 'work'.
4.'suddenly' is the adverb. It modifies the verb 'fall'.

So far, so good. 16 and 17 (old) are used as adjectives; they describe.
