If god loves me so much, why does he threaten me with severe bodily injury and/or...

...death? I'm having a hard time understanding... god loves me, but if I stray from his teachings the bible prescribes all sorts of violence against me as punishment.... "the wages of sin is death"... etc.

So, does he love me or not?

You know nobody has the answer you want. Many will put scriptures from the bible in here, but no book is going to save you. The bible was written as law, kind of like the constitution. It was put in place to protect people and to give power to some. This is my belief, live by your own bible, and IF you are judged at the end.........hopefully the one judging shares your beliefs on what a good llife is. Because there is too much in the Bible that does not make sense

Absolutely and perfectly, God loves you. The way people understand God's love is indicated in your heart, mind and soul, and in your spirit, and there and only there is His real love for you known and experienced. But, your question seems to circumvent the entirety of God's nature and the evolution of the God concept of our human ancestors. That you ask this question, is indicative that your spirit is stirred up by conflicting information called "scripture" which is of the finite, evolutionary man who sought God, but was limited by his levels of attainment. True God-knowing individuals understand that God has zero need to threaten you the way men of old professed. Do you see fire and brimstone raining down on your every time you choose not to follow the commandments to a tee? ....
