first calling an ambulance for somthing that is not an emergancy takes a needed emergancy vehicle of the road and that includes 2 trained medics. so lets say your service area is overloaded with calls on the ems side and they get your call and send an ambulance to get you and somthing major happens but ther our no crews avaliable because these 2 trained medics our dealing with a twisted ankle. bad idea the medics will probly not be to happy with you. also in emergancy rooms they can and have made medics wait up to 2 or 3 hours befor a bed is avaliable for a none lifethreating injury. so think again befor calling ems only do it in a true emergancy.

second what you could do instead of going to emergancy room go to an urgent care clinic they do everything the same as an emergancy room but it is set up for stuff like breaks, sprains and strains and stuff like that.

omg i've gone to the ER for ankle twisted like twenty times cuz i have really weak ankles.
First, the doctor will look at it and ask you to bend it and walk on it a little. Then they will do an x-ray. If it is broken... they'll give you a cast and stuff. If it's not they'll give you some ibeprofen and an ankle brace. It depends on the severity of the sprain/twist to see if you get crutches.

The wait will depend on the criticality of the other cases in the ER at the time--obviously a twisted ankle doesn't rate more prompt attention than a head injury,or a heart attack. Expect blood work, xrays, possibly a cast &/or crutches depending on how serious your injury is..

expect at least 2 hours waiting.xrays for sure. depending on the doctor you may get pain pills. but if he's a jerk then he might tell you to take ibuprofen.

I'd just call your doctor. There's not much they can do for you other than rap it and tell you to stay off of it for a few days. You can go to a junk store and get some crutches for about ten bucks. If you have insurance and dont want to wait in the waiting room for hours, just call 911 and they will send an ambulance out and they will roll you right back to the ER, no waiting.
