Neck injury information needed?

I injured my neck exercising. Ironicly I felt the first twinge doing a neck relaxation exercise where I roll my head around while conciously relaxing and letting gravity do the work.
I felt another twinge doing V-ups (sit ups) but the pain wasn't an issue till late in the day when I did mostly light but repetitive lifting while working over three hours. That night I tried to get up from the bed (bathroom) at 3:am and it took me literaly 1/2 an hour. I couldn't get back to sleep or even lay down- intense pain.
Well it's been 6 days and feeling a lot better but I'm not yet out of the woods. I got 3 different meds from the doc which help but I hate taking as I have a love/hate relationship with opioid pain pills. Tommorow when I stop taking them on one hand I'll be happy as I know the risks, but on the other I'll really miss them and pine for more.
My questions are; how long should I wait before continuing weight lifting and cardio and what can I do to not re-injure my neck? THANKS!

Re-injure? WTF are you talking about it has not been fixed yet. Pain killers do not fix anything they merely mask the problem while rest stops the injury from being aggravated. If you start exercising it's going to hurt.
If you really want to fix the problem once and for ever read and apply http://www.helium.com/tm/148271
