What factors affect your insurance-standard/automatic, engine size, 2/ 4...

...door, color, size, diesel/gas, make? Are there certain types of these to stay away from if you would like to have lower insurance? Does the mileage make a difference? I realise that certain makes are higher in insurance..any guidelines? Thank you for your help these are important factors in buying a car for me.
