| My dad recently died and left my mom with nothing, he had canceled all of...
...his life insurance, credit life etc. We now think he had slight dementia. My mother knew about this, but felt powerless to do anything. A month before he died, he bought a used car for $3200 for my son who is 21. My father told my son and me that he had taken out a personal loan from his credit union to pay for the car. He and my son had a verbal agreement for my son to make payments to him. I now know that my father took out a cash advance on a credit card to pay for the car. Since my mom has no income coming in at least for a while, my son was just going to continue making the payments until it is paid off. Well, my brother has now decided and convinced my mom that my son must give the car back in order to pay off this credit card. I unfortunately do not have access to that kind of cash to just pay this off, and neither does my son, who is devastated, but wants to do what’s right. I am furious and hurt, I think my dad wanted my son to have this car. What if the sell doesn't pay off the card balance? Who is responsible?
