Can you use a Life Insurance policy.................?

I have 2 life policies one is new and is worth if i die tomorrow 90,000 other one is a small on that my parent took out on me as a kid. Anyway, can these be used for collateral on a home purchase or personal loan????? or do they have to have cash value???????????
