johnwashburn has a spectacular aura about
key scratches? insurance?

i was parked at the mall, about a week ago and some kids must have thought it funny , and someone keyed the side of my car, the drivers side, a big nice deep key jsut about the entire length of the car. i live in canada. i am wondering, my car is pretty old, its a 1992, now, my car isnt worth much, but what will my insurance cost? someone told me it may be a write off? its also insured under my dads name, so does that mean he has to make the claim? how much will it cost to paint? how must is covered for paint?

Usually if you want the insurance company to cover something you have to file a claim and pay whatever the deductible is. Since your car is old and not worth much you are probably better off getting some touch up paint and touching it up yourself.
