Is there a way to get psychological help/medication when you can't afford it/do...

...not have insurance? I used to be going to a therapist and psychiatrist and receiving medication. However I lost my job, and no longer have insurance. I have a new job now, but it will be a while before I have insurance again.

Are there any programs to help continue treatment and medication for people in my situation? I can't afford it out of pocket... It seemed to help.

If you have a health dept in your city then you should also have a mental health building. Call the health dept. and ask or look through your phone book under county departments. I will let you know that these places are normally not in the best neighborhood and they will be nothing like when you go to see your normal therapists office. There will be some really CRAZY people in there. They should base everything off of your income.

There are usually mental health facilities in every county. Call your county health dept. They will be able to assist you.

I don't know how old you are or if you are a male or female. I say this because you can always get on the state medicare program. Also, have you applied for disability? Mental illness is a disability, and the state may be able to pay for your treatment. It won't be A class treatment of course, but at least you'll have the basics. Try going to the emergency room of your local hospital also. Tell them you are mentally unstable and you need emergency treatment. Tell them you have no insurance right now, and ask them if they have a plan for people without insurance. Most of them do. There are a lot of free counseling groups all over that you can attend to talk about your problems and also network with other people with your same illness. Kinda like AAA groups, only for psycological issues. Google it and put in your state. I hope this helps some.

yes theres many ways to treat yourself. depends really what the problem is.

Anxiety/panic attacks can be self cured by meditating on what might have caused this. Then you can come clean with this and that will help. Or for when you are having these problems you can breath in a paper bag, or breath in slowly through your nose and out through your mouth. The point of this is to slow your heart down and calm down, do not take deep breaths.

Can you post what exactly you were seeing a doctor for so i could be of more help

I am not sure..sorry. Ask around and search online. I know when I was in college I seeked help and the college helped me get treatment at lower cost. However for now I know vitamin b12 and b complex do wonders and also saint johns wort and valerian. Depending what you need there is always a natural alternative, and they really do work. And they are less expensive.

You can call your local county social services dept. they can help.
Also, try asking a nearby "walk in" clinic, they have helped many people I know, by giving referrals, over the phone, if you have a serious problem which it sounds like you do.....
Best of luck to you.

Call your local hospital (that has a psych ward) - they may be able to help. Talking to your old therapist's office might give you some answers, too. Some counseling centers work on a sliding scale basis, which means your fee is based upon your income. The hospital should be able to tell you who.

I'm afraid it's really hard to get the same kind of help without insurance as with insurance, but there are loopholes here and there if you talk to people in the know. Good luck!
