Too Far Gone Internet Romance?

I met this guy online last year (something I have never done before) when I was not quite ready to get involved in a serious relationship (had a very bad 9 year long relationship, long story). I am usually very good at keeping people I meet at arms' length but this was different because he was just a Spades partner, then an IM smiley and then a voice on the phone so all my normal emotional barriers kind of fell away and he got to the heart of me pretty quickly. It wasn't long before he figured out (and I caught on) that we were practically soulmates. Nothing could have terrified me more due to past horrible relationships. We spent every day on the phone together for hours but I refused to let him come see me even though he pleaded with me a million times. I was terrified that reality might destroy what we had but even more terrified that reality would force yet another serious relationship that I would fail abysmally at. Eventually....
