Do Japanese Fighting Fish ever sleep/rest?

Recently bought a Japanese Fighting Fish and upon settling it into it's new home, I discovered it just sort of.. floating near the surface. Looked as if it had it's eyes closed, as well. Just wondering if this breed of fish ever slept? I know fish don't sleep... or at least that's what I thought!
