| Is this true? I've heard that the Irish accent frequently expresses similarities to the Irish language? More specifically, the structure of the Irish language is shown in the Irish English accent. For example, the Irish language having sentences that start with verbs.Is this true?Does anyone know of any phrases/sentences in the Irish English accent that you can think of that possess some similarities to the Irish language?      |

| Is this true? I've heard that the Irish accent frequently expresses similarities to the Irish language? Yes, we sometimes use different structures and phrases that come from Irish. In Irish, there are no words for "yes" and "no" so when speaking English we sometimes answer questions using the verb from the question instead of saying yes or no. So if someone asks you "Did you go to the shop?", the answer is either "I did" or "I didn't". Another example is saying "I'm after doing x" instead of "I have done x". e.g. "I'm after doing my homework", "I'm after spilling my tea".There are lots of other examples, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiberno_English http://www.hiberno-english.com/ |
