Can babies learn two different languages if they grow up with both of them in the same house? Or is it hard?

It is actually easier for babies to learn the languages because of such early exposure. My bestfriend has a son and she is american but her husband is mexican so there are two languages in the house. They say the brain of a child is like a sponge just looking to soak up information so they learn languages faster than older children and adults.

It is much easier for children to learn multiple language than older people. The older the child gets, the less they learn. It is possible to learn at an older age, but it is harder. I remember most of the foreign lanugage I was taught as a young child. I can not remember much foreign language from high school. Many of the children in my neighborhood (Oklahoma) speak Spanish and English. Many of the parents don't.

They can grow up with both of them, and it increases their mental abilities. My parents are both bilingual but decided to teach us only English. Then they tried to teach us the other language for a trip to the old country and we (me and my two brothers) were like fish out of water. Too little, too late. If you have two languages, please raise your children with both of them. Children have an amazing ability to soak it all up.

Salaams Its very easy for children to learn even 3 languages which are completely different. I live in a joint family... All the brothers and their wives n children live together. The kids speak.. english, hindi and because of the Islamic influence can read Arabic at the age of 2 !!My mother says, a baby's brain is like a wet cement. If any nail is pierced in it or any imprint put on it... (knowledge or piece of information) Its will stay forever !
