Sorry Divya, your approach does not seem to be right! Dictionary is only a tool for consultation when needed but enriching vocabulary requires extensive reading by which you learn words as used in given contexts!

try a thesaurus instead of a dictionary

Joe joe is correct, you need a thesaurus, which is not a type of dinosaur, but a special dictionary that gives you words with the same meanings as or similar meanings to the word you begin with. Very useful if you are writing something and don't want to use the same word too many times - look it up in a thesaurus, and you will find several other words you can use in its place.

i will suggest you to read good articles and editorials in magazines or news papers .then you will find words that you don't know.with a help of a dictionary you can find its actual meaning and then you can use the word at appropriate place.if possible try to write a summary of what you read and this will help you to improve your style and also to improve knowledge
