Because Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world? Most of the minorities speak Spanish too, so is very useful.

Because within the next 30 years there will be more Spanish speaking people in the USA than English speaking people.I guess it's easier to teach Spanish to English speakers than it is to insist that people who come here must learn the language.
