Novels set during Spanish Civil War or America pre-independance?

I recently read Winter in Madrid by CJ Samson, and found an interest in the Spanish Civil war and the aftermath of it. I was wondering if anyone could recommend novels that are set during the years of the Spanish Civil War? Alternatively, could anyone reccomend a novel set in America either before the war of independance or during it?
Any help is very much appreciated.

Jeff Sharra has written a number of historical fictions about American wars. Check for "Rise to Rebellion" and "The Glorious Cause" about the American Revolution. I don't think he's written any about the Spanish Civil war, but there are a number of others. His father, Michael Sharra, wrote an excellent book about the battle of Gettysburg in the American Civil War also called, "The Killer Angels."

Hemingway's "For Whom the Bell Tolls" is a classic from the Spanish Civil War. Written after the author spent time in country during the conflict as a medic.

Try Cuba Libre by Elmore Leonard. It's set during the Spanish American war, but its a great book and much lighter than For Whom the Bell Tolls.

Try 'Spirit of the Border' by Zane Grey. I believe it's set in pre-Revolutionary America, and I enjoyed it a lot.
