| British Sign Language?
Are there any Deaf from the UK on this website? My friend is going to Scotland this summer to work with some Deaf children there. She knows American Sign Language, but I know that British Sign Language and American Sign Language are very different. Do you have any suggestions for her on what signs are most important to learn so she can communicate with them? I told her to learn the alphabet, but what else should she learn?
There are different languages of sign just as there are different languages of speech. if you go to Germany, you can not expect for you to be able to speak to them with English and they understand! It is the same with a visual or signed language.
Your question is not offensive, I did not even know that they were different in other countries until I started taking ASL classes! But it does make sense, doesn't it? Did you know that American Sign Language was orriginated from French Sign Language? Probably not cause you thought it was all the same! So did I till I took ASL class, so no worries!
