what language to take in high school?

I have the choice of German French or Chocktaw or some Native American language. I'm about 1/4 German and I already know a little bit, French is in my blood too and my grandparents taught me a little and the Native American would be new. ANy suggestions?

They are not offering Spanish? Wow that's a kicker. I took French all through HS and college, but now regret it just a bit due to the number of Spanish speaking people now in the country, but if that's not an issue for you, I say go with German...cuz it's cool. : )

Learn German. If you can take more than one language, then take German and French.

german is far more useful in mainland europe, since it is the majority languag of germany and austria (large countries) and switzerland (a small one).

french is spoken in france (a large country) and belgium (a small one).

but then french is spoken as an official language in dozens of african countries. so much so that if you speak both french and english you will speak at least one official language almost anywhere in africa.

chocktaw is a dying language (all the native american languages are). if you learn chocktaw, will you ever use it?

i think you would need a very strong motivation to learn chocktaw, and you need to remember that if you have no-one with whom you can speak a language you can never become fluent in it.

since you have german family, would it interest you to be able to read the sort of thing your ancestors were reading a century or more ago?

or do you have a desire to one day travel in africa, and meet and talk to people there whose life experience is more different from yours than you can easily imagine?

which language excites you the most? - choose where your love points.

I think German or French would be a good choice. They both have a lot of speakers and can be useful. I say pick whichever of those two you feel most comfortable with.
