Ok please help my native language is not english so what does this means?

When someone says that "they'll be very busy through the first part May", is that they're talking about the month of May only or will be busy all this time up to May, I'm a little lost understanding? Please help!

It could mean either, though my first thought was "busy during the first part of May (only)." This is the kind of thing that could mean either depending on the context. Sorry, English is irritating sometimes!
