It's not about being better. There are times where it's appropriate to use imparfait and when to use the passé composé. The PC is for completed actions. The IMP is for actions that took place over a long period of time, or were/are habitual, or were happening up to the point of where you're speaking. For example, a lot of IMP sentences may start with 'Quand j'étais petit(e), j'allias chez ma grand-mère' it's habitual and shows you did it regularly when you were small. In contrast to 'Quand j'ai cinq ans, je suis allé(e) chez ma grand-mère' which is very precise and only happened once.

The imperfect is ongoing action in the past, like "I was studying". The passé composé indicates completed actions, like "I studied."

One is not "better" than the other. They have two very different meanings.

L'imparfait is most remote than the passé composé.

Example: hier j'ai fait mon travail d'anglais mais la veille (the eve, the day before) j'avais fait mon devoir d'espagnol.

is this clear enough? Hope someone is able to give more ideas.
