How similar are the Italic languages to the Celtic languages? Well, at one time and another the Celtic tribes dominated parts of Europe in their nomadic adventures. At one time, they were in the northern part of Spain, got landlocked in the Pyrennes, and settled there for many years. The creolization of the existing Latin there, along with the Celtic language had a great influence on today´s Spanish. Spanish was highly influenced by the Arabic language as well, when the Arab Moors dominated Spain in 711 to 1492 c-+. Words that begin with the prefix ´´al´´ in Spanish (and in English) tend to have an Arabic origin. Examples: alhombra(pillow), alcohol, Alambra (city in the region of Andalucía, Spain). The Celtic language had a great influence on today´s English, as the close proximity of the British Isles and France created different dialects of Old English which today are dialects there like Welsh, Gaelic Irish, Scottish, etc., Today´s modern English was greatly influenced by a mix of Celt and Normandy French, among other languages, especially Germanic languages, which English is known as in the family of languages. English is what I call the Heinz 57 of all languages: a little bit of this, a little bit of that. In fact, English has the largest, and most diverse vocabulary. Here´s an interesting random thought, Basque, which is located in Northern Spain, is a language that seems to have no vowels, and the words are a mile long. This language has no known origin nor connection to any living or dead language in the world. No wonder they want to be an independent nation. Wow! I hope you didn´t get bored with my ranting. I LOVE languages! Hope you didn´t have too hard of a time understanding what I had to ´´say´´. Adieu.

Well, maybe in origin, they shared some similarities, but at roman times they were already very differents. And now...well, you are french. You speak a romance language, peut-etre vous avez ecouté parler le Breton (une langue celtique). Pensez-vous qu'il se resemble au francais?

Breton, Welsh, Irish and other celtic languages are very different to romance and germanic languages.
