Japanese Anime/manga fans vs American Cartoon/comics fans?

Hello everyone. =)

I had a thought lingering in my mind about what I've seen and experienced between these two sub cultures, both in and out of conventions/events and the internet.

It would seem that manga/anime fans are bias or somewhat against those who love tradition american shows/comics and the same with vice versa.
My question is simple. =)

WHY?

Generally speaking, I find both to be similar mediums and celebrated in similar fashions. Readers, collectors and even cosplayers alike although sometimes i think cosplayers take it a little too serious. But whats with this "anime fans are gay" "american cartoons are for panzies" stuff? Why insult eachother about it?

Well, after a while of being exposed to this type of inner nerd war, I had to take a small vacation from it because it was getting really muddy all over me.
I would hope everyone can enjoy their favorite shows without having to fight about it. It gets ridiculous sometimes. People need to relax. lol 0_o

Sensibilities.

Scott McCloud wrote a fabulous book called "Understanding comics" which allowed me to understand the fundamental differences between the US and the japanese.

Most US comics are very action oriented, whereas the japanese go more for the feelings and emotions behind it.

I am reading mahoromatic, which has some stupendous action sequences, but we are telling more the story of the emotional content between Mahoro and Suguru.

Until both sides come to realize how they tell the story, you will get this rather petty and fruitless argument, because one side has to establish supremacy

It seems to me that each group, almost in a religious way, regards their own medium as the only "right" or "good" animation, looking upon the other as fake, exaggerated, stupid, and all the same.
You said it, mate. People NEED to chill out. I can watch Simpsons, Family Guy and Yakitate in the same night, and my head won't explode. (Although just from a tone variation, it actually might.)

I agree. It gets a little tiring...

I adore anime and manga, but I also grew up with spiderman, Xmen, and so on. I remember my dad giving me some of his old comic books that were water damaged, so he didn't care what I did with them. I read them over and over again. And even now, I have a few comics, though I prefer the AD&D ones over all others. So, in other words, I have nothing against comic books.

Though the whole bolding of random words does annoy me greatly...

And yes, I agree that they are very similar. They're both comics, obsessed fans dress up as their favorite characters, conventions are held for both, and once they're popular enough they are made into animations or live movies. I think everyone should just leave the other side alone and let them like what they want. We're all nerds and dorks and whatnot here, anyway. Just get along.
