| Question on French Imparfait ..?
How come in the imparfait, when you already conjugate a verb, the next one goes in the past as well? E.g. Le prophete a dit qu'il [etait destine] a mourir. Etre is already conjugated as etait.. so why isn't destiner in the infinitive? |

That's the rule of the "imparfait": You use either the verb "avoir" or "être", depending on your verb, then you conjugate the verb you're using in the "passé" form. ex: Je suis partit Je l'ai trouvée Je suis affamée Elles ont trouvées (la valise) **If you notice, that "other verb" that's conjugated right before is always either the verb "avoir" or "être." Those are sort of the "base verbs." |
