I am looking for the name of a late 1990s/early 2000s French film about a man who...

...has a mid-life crisis.? I am desparately trying to remember the name of a French film that was on late on channel 4 about five years ago. The plot was about a French man who couldn't connect with other people. He got drunk a lot, and struck up a bizarre friendship with another man. It was quite an existential film, and it was simultanously a dark comedy, with lots of musing on the meaning of life etc. There was a scene in a nightclub at the end. There was also a scene at a drinks party in a flat.
