If you're talking about replacing the doors (with prehung doors, so you're replacing the door jamb and threshold), the cost difference won't be that much. A good set of French doors will cost you about several hundred dollars, plus installation. Sliding doors might be a couple hundred less. But, if you want French doors, go for it. You'll be much happier.
