Spanish speaking people only!!!?

Please give me the answer for this.

Explain what the paseo is and tell what purpose it serves in spanish-speaking countries.

It's for my homework and the answer is not in my textbook and not on the internet. So i was hoping someone with the knowledge of it could help me. ¡Muchas Gracías!

old lady has a spectacular aura about
The paseo is that age old custom where young people gather in the central square of the village. Girls walk one way, boys walk the other, so they see each other twice on each circuit. It's the time for a little mild flirting, a little eye contact, a few smiles - because in Latin countries, young men and women don't date as they do in European countries. This is the way the marriageable-aged men and women see each other so when papa comes home and announces he has arranged an engagement with Jose, Maria can either say Si,papa, that would be wonderful, or No papa, not that terrible person. Find someone else for me.
