would a basenji get along with a japanese spitz?

e have this basenji (3months old) for almost 3 weeks now and hes really really weird and spoiled. we adopted a 2-month old japanese spitz yesterday, whos way bigger than the basenji. at first, our basenji would just watch the spitz run and play and then after a couple of hours he would imitate every act of the spitz, like the way the spitz would sleep and he could now imitate the barking. the spitz likes to play with him but he would bite the spitz for real.the spitz, though bigger, would resign to a corner while the basenji would attack his tail, legs, face. we always end up separating them. he wouldnt even let the spitz use his own towel but he would use the spitz toys and also eats the spitz foods.

im thinking about putting the basenji in a cage instead of his comfy bed, but he always cry when hes locked in. i dont want to have both of them locked in as possible. is there any way i can get them go along together? or at least to make my basenji gentler when theyre playing.
and theyre both males.

Okay my bad -- edited it out.
So their both males. The situation is normal their both males, the basenji is protecting it's territory*. Male dogs are like that, the spitz is acting submissive because he is new to the enviroment, I think letting them get along to each other for a while is a good idea, don't lock them up or seperate them from each other in a cage, - not a good idea, even though it may seem like it, beccause you're protecting them from getting hurt, but it's not such a good idea. You need to let them settle together, and you need to teach the basenji to share and to cooperate. I suggest take them on a walk together if you haven't already, because it's neither of their territories. I hope this made sense D: As for the male nd male problem, i'm not sure how their temper are for the breed

& time & patience is key to this problem, as corny as that sounds but it's true! You can't really blame the basenji, it's not his fault it's natural instinct to protect his home
