Lauren H has a spectacular aura about
Spanish of French? I work with many Hispanic people but I want to work in Africa.?

Right now I work for a non-profit and I have many students who are bilingual Spanish speakers. Some of their parents do not have a good command of English and it would be easier to converse with them in Spanish. However my long term dream is to work in African development. I want to work primarily in West Africa where there are a lot of francophone countries. So would it be more wise for me to take French classes or Spanish classes right now?
Thanks for your insightful, intelligent answers!

i would take french classes. its a lot harder than spanish and wold take more time to learn. plus french is becoming the most popular foreign language to learn in the world. the UN for example uses english primarily, but french fluency is a requirement for most of its positions, many of whom work in Africa.

You should learn Spanish and then French. Every Spanish speaker can understand French and Italian for that matter. Once you learn the basics of Spanish, learning French (which is slightly more difficult) will be SO easy!!
